FAQs

How can a newborn nurse and Lactation Consultant benefit my family?

A Newborn Nurse can provide education and hands on instruction to help the new mother and father transition into their new role as parents.

  • Providing education on safety, feeding, changing, bathing and general infant care
  • Providing assessment and hands on assistance with breastfeeding by an RN / IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant)
  • Infant weight check

What can I expect during my visit?

Your nurse will provide you with folder with educational flyers and pamphlets.  She will review the information and highlight areas of safety and immediate importance as well as answer your questions along the way.  She will weigh the baby, and then assess and assist you with breast feeding.  At the end of the visit the RN will make referrals and class recommendations for you as needed.

Wouldn’t a family member or friend work?

A Newborn Nurse is a licensed professional who has years of experience with newborns along with specialized knowledge and the most current recommendations for you and your newborn.  Family and friends can assist you in many ways: emotional support, meal preparation, laundry, household chores, changing diapers etc.
